惠书顷已由书店转到。蒙诸位不弃，叫我赴桂林教书，可游名区，又得厚币，不胜感荷。但我不登讲坛，已历七年，其间一味悠悠忽忽，学问毫无增加，体力却日见衰退。倘再误人子弟，纵令听讲者曲与原谅，自己实不胜汗颜，所以对于远来厚意，只能诚恳的致谢了。
桂林荸荠，亦早闻雷名，惜无福身临其境，一尝佳味，不得已，也只好以上海小马蹄（此地称荸荠如此）代之耳。
