前日见黄先生，知已赴平了。
近日正在译《死魂灵》，拟于第一期登一，二两章，约二万字，十五日前可毕，此后则每期一章，约一万二三千字，全书不过十五六万字，分十一章，到十期即完结了。
孟君的译笔很好，先生已经知道的，他想每期译点东西（第一期涅氏诗已译就），我的译文不能达豫定之数，大约字数不虞拥挤，但不知此外有无不便，希酌示。如以为可，则指与何种书，或短篇抑中篇小说，并希示知为幸。
